GZTALE BELONGS TO :icongolzydee:

HELLO EVERYBODY!!! Welcome to the second part of Insomnia!! in which I torture the ex-Captain of the Royal Guard >:3

With that said....let's go onward to the story !

EDIT: THIS IS NOW A STANDALONE STORY, I CHANGED THE TITLE, PROPS TO YOU IF YOU GOT THE REFERNCE :3

~

"Aaaaand that's all for tonight's stream! See ya all tomorrow night!"

Mel waved, grinning at the camera that pointed right at him. In the stream chat, the people sent their goodbyes and slowly went offline. Soon the chatroom was completely empty and silent.

The skeleton sighed, smirking to himself. That had been yet another enjoyable gaming session, and he can't be happier with himself. With the introduction of Bendy and The Ink Machine, a old cartoon-style horror game that he learned about online, he had decided to try it out, despite the fact that he might not be able to handle it due to the lack of light.

However, to his surprise, when he took some fans' advice to put on non-scary music during the playthrough, even though it kind of ruins the effect(he had been listening to Build Our Machine during the whole stream),he had not had one single severe panic attack during the whole thing. Hell, he even enjoyed it!

Sure, his fear of total darkness in real life would probably stay due to his scarring experience in the early days of his birth, but he was slowly overcoming his fear of the dark in a smaller scale.

And he was proud of himself for that.

I can't wait to tell Dad the good news!

Just when he was about to jump into his covers to get a good night's sleep, the sound of slashing claws interrupted thoughts.

Geez, did you have to train now?!

His good mood ebbing away, Mel climbed off his bed and walked out his room.

~

The training room was painted white, a shade that was bright yet easy on the eyes. In the room, the preparing/waiting space was separated with the much larger actual training space with a glass wall and door that linked both spaces.

In the training space, Jeal's sharp claws ripped through the bodies of numerous robotic drones, sending clear metallic sounds echoing through the air. He did not stop, nor did he falter, until the final drone's power flickered out.

Panting, he kicked hard at the dark grey robot before it was sent back into the walls with the others for automatic repair. Just then, he sensed a sharp gaze behind him.

"Melancholy, I know you're there," He growled.

"Well, that's one way to greet someone." Mel retorted, walking into the training space.

"What do you want? I have better things to do than to deal with you." Mel's eyesockets widened slightly. Was that a hint of trembling in his voice?

"Well, I came here to tell you to turn it down, cuz I'm going to sleep." Mel explained as the taller skeleton pressed various options of training on the glass control panel, sweat trickling down his face, seemingly avoiding his gaze. That's weird, he thought. He normally looks straight at me. "But y'know, since we're both wide awake, care for a sparring session? "

"No." The ex-captain of the royal Guard spat, his body shaking like his voice. His hands were balled into tight fists. "Now leave me alone."

All those were symptoms that Mel knew all too well.

The shorter skeleton sighed and walked forward.

"Look, let's make a deal," Mel suggested. "We'll have a rematch."

Jeal abruptly turned towards his arch-enemy, orange sparks dancing in his eyes.

 Gotcha.

 Mel smiled internally, and continued.

"If I lose, I'll never get in your way again. If you lose, you'll have to tell me what's going on with you. Capiche?"

Mel knew the risk of using this method to coax the truth out of Jeal's mouth. There was the possibility that he might die, even though he was already in the Void. Jeal had won their previous fight, so there might be a chance that he might win again. After all, Jeal's HP was twice his own.   On the other hand, there was also the possibility that he might kill Jeal accidentally, now that he possessed a human soul, and he's not used to going easy on anyone, much less on a former enemy. Then there was the problem of what would happen if he actually won without killing Jeal. What if there was nothing wrong with Jeal? Then the whole battle will be pointless. And even if there was something wrong with him, it probably had something to do with him.

But I had really never seen the guy this rattled before, Mel thought. He looks like he's about to have a panic attack....

A sadistic grin spread through the ex-Captain of the Royal Guard's face, though Mel noticed that it was much more forced.

"So be it." And immediately he lunged towards Mel, his claws blazing and ready to strike. Mel immediately jumped away from the slash, much to Jeal's surprise and disdain.

"Since when have you become such a coward?" He taunted, not noticing that Mel had jumped high up into the air, both his eyes turning magenta and blue.

"Oh I don't know, maybe it's called 'strategy'."

And before Jeal could respond further, He found himself blasted by 4 magenta and yellow Gaster Blaster beams at the same time. A million alarms rose in his mind for him to dodge, but a whisper kept him frozen in place, and all he could do was to let out a cry of agony.

I deserve this.

Mel landed behind Jeal, shocked that he didn't dodge or block the beams. But there was no time to think, as Jeal, his expression being that of hellish fury. But Mel thought he saw fear and guilt in his eyes before he started blocking a flurry of vicious claw strikes.

The battle raged on for about an hour or so and both skeletons had lost a considerable amount of HP.

As the shorter skeleton landed on his two feet, having just received a kick to the stomach, maintaining balance with his claws dug into the ground, he contemplated Jeal from afar.

The taller skeleton seemed to be in a much worse condition than himself(whose clothes were singed slightly and had slightly sore bones from constant moving). He was barely able to stand. He held his arm with his hand in a sort of self-hugging gesture, almost his whole top was burnt off, and he was shaking violently. The fire in his eyes was flickering.

He should be in his Parlous form by now! Mel realized as a fresh wave of alarm hit him.

"WHY?!" He screamed at Mel. "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?! WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME?!"

"You seemed a bit off! So I had to find out why!! And I'm returning the favour okay?! You helped me a few nights before remember?!" Mel replied, his voice slightly more gentle than Jeal's.

"YOU WON'T UNDERSTAND!!"

Mel felt his soul grabbed by blue magic, and he resisted his soul being grabbed, standing his ground. He didn't have to dodge the bones that flew towards him, as they dissolved before they could hit him.

Mel's eyes returned to their normal colours, magenta and yellow in one and solid blue in the other.

"What's going on with you?" Mel asked, his voice quiet but clear, as he made a cautious step towards Jeal.

Jeal outstretched a trembling hand.

"Stop!" Mel cried out. "You'll dust yourself!"

"And why do you care?" He could hear the coldness and bitterness in Jeal's voice growing thinner and weaker. "Why would you care about a.....dirty brother killer like me?"

The question would have caught him off guard a few moments ago, but now Mel had the answer, loud and clear in his head.

"Hey, Sure, you've done some bad shit, some really bad shit, but...."Mel smiled encouragingly, "I know why you had to do what you did......you miss Papyrus, don't you?"

The other skeleton fell to his knees, no longer able to keep himself up.

His half soul pained to even think of the memory.

How Papyrus died in shock, before he even processed what had happened.

Vengeance had blinded him, from the suffering of both his brothers, Ganz and Melancholy.  He had made Ganz suffer, and die, and yet Melancholy....he....

The weight of what he'd done fell on him all at once, and he could feel himself collapsing, clawing into the ground. he tried to form words, but none came.

But nobody ca-

"Shh, shh, it's okay. It's going to be okay. Just....let it all out..."

He felt Mel's arms around him.

And he let it happen.

Mel embraced Jeal as he cried with raw emotion, practically bawling, orange tears rolling down his cheeks.

They kneeled there, together.

After Jeal's crying had eased, he looked up with teary brown eyes.

"I don't understand.....why? You could've just killed me...."

Mel shook his head. "I know how it feels to lose.....a piece of yourself. About that accident, uhm....About Papyrus..."

"I'm sorry." Jeal interrupted, averting his gaze. "About everything. I shouldn't have...killed Sans....."

"Hey, hey, it's all in the past now." The smaller skeleton shrugged. He knew he could always reach Sans on the other side, but Papyrus.....he'll find a way to find Papyrus again, he was sure.

Their eyes met, and for the first time, there were no traces of resentment on both sides.

"Thank you.....Brother....."

Hearing that, Mel grinned, magenta tears of happiness forming at his eyesockets.

Not enemies.

Not rivals.

But brothers.

Their foreheads touched lightly.

"Anytime, Bro."
