I've done too much Mel angst in the past, time for something new >

Yup, I'm egging on Gaster this time XD

The past can't hold us down...

"Are you ready?"

"Fuck yeah!"Mel grinned widely in response, taking off his hoodie and dropping into his usual sparring stance.

The corner of Gaster's mouth curled up in anticipation.

Of course, it had been him who brought up the idea of sparring. As a (former)scientist, he was still curious about the extent of Mel's abilities after absorbing a human soul. The thought had disgusted him then, especially when he remembered how far he had gone with the determination pills. That was why he had decided to simply ask for his son's consent and get the idea out of his mind as soon as possible.

What surprised him was that Mel had agreed, under the condition that he could decide when they sparred and that they spar in a well-lit place. Understanding Mel's intense fear of darkness and Sans' past experiences, he willingly allowed it.

"Here I cOOOOOME!!" Mel's eager battle cry snapped the older skeleton out of his thoughts, and he dodged his son's claw attack. Instantly, he summoned a rain of bones and aimed it at the other skeleton, who leaped away swiftly.

"Great to see age hasn't worn you down, ya old man!" Mel smirked, both his eyes blazing bright blue and magenta. Within seconds, two bright blue Gaster Blasters appeared beside him, and he quickly teleported out of the way before the pink-and-golden beams could hit him.

"Who do you think I am?" He replied, and summoned a huge Gaster Blaster above him. As the wide white beam hit a hard bone surface, he suddenly found that the white room was morphing into a black space.

Before him, a young Sans glared, his dragon skull shield cracked.

Gaster's eyesockets widened. Cautiously, He stepped towards Sans just as the shield dissolved.

"G-get away from me!!" The young skeleton cried out as he fell on his bottom, fear evident on his face.

A long-forgotten feeling of guilt rushed to his chest, spreading like wildfire.

"...Uh...Dad..?" Mel said as he watched his father freeze in place.

It was suffocating him, yet he knew very well that he deserved to feel like this.

He, W. D. Gaster, had experimented on his own child.

Every single tragedy that had happened in Sans' life had been his fault and his fault alone.

"You can't run away from me, Sans." His own voice echoed in his mind, and oh Golzy he had been smiling.

"Dad??" Mel called out, walking closer. "Dad, are you okay?"

Like a maniac. A madman. A sadist who got a kick out of seeing his son suffer.

His cries and pleas were ringing inside his mind now, growing louder by the second. He could feel his body tremble as Sans stared at him with fear.

Above the deafening whispers, a voice rose, loud and clear. His own voice.

"✡□◆ ♍♋■🕯⧫ ❒◆■ ♋⬥♋⍓📬(You can't run away.)"

"☠□📪(No,)" he choked out, his voice coarse. "
☠□📪 ■□📪 ■□📬📬📬📬📬(No, no, no.....)"

"(You can't run away from what you've done.)"

He fell on his knees, clutching his chest. "✋🕯❍ ⬧□❒❒⍓📬📬📬📬✋🕯❍ ⬧□ ⬧□❒❒⍓📪 ♓❍⬧□❒❒⍓📪♓❍⬧□❒❒⍓📪♓❍⬧□❒❒⍓♓❍⬧□❒❒⍓♓❍⬧□❒❒⍓(I'm sorry....I'm so sorry, imsorry,imsorry,imsorryimsorryimsorry-)"

"WAKE UP, DAD!! IT'S NOT REAL!!"

Gaster blinked, panting heavily as he looked up.

Mel kneeled right in front of him, a look of intense concern on his smooth face.

Of course. It was only a memory.

The younger skeleton opened his mouth, but was interrupted by Gaster's raised hand.

"I'm alright," he managed a reassuring smile, staggering slightly as he slowly stood up. "Don't you have a stream planned?"

"But-"

"I will join you in a while." Gaster continued quickly, briskly walking past his son and toward his room.

Mel frowned as he watched his father leave.
